Sundekaes is a classic German cheese spread originally created in Mainz. When it’s paired with soft chewy pretzel bread and a smoky tangy Salami they are impossible to resist!
Ingredients
1 package of pretzel buns
1 package of Freybe Cervelat Salami
10 walnuts, optional for garnish
10 gherkins, optional for garnish
10 cherry tomatoes, optional for garnish
For the Spundekaes
1/3 cup cream cheese
1/3 cup quark if you can’t find quark you can use drained Greek yogurt
1/3 cup sour cream
1/4 of a small white onion chopped fine
1 small garlic clove minced
1/2 teaspoon sweet paprika
Directions
To make the Spundekaes, combine the cream cheese, quark and sour cream in a small bowl until smooth. Stir in the onion, garlic and paprika. Store in refrigerator until ready to prepare the canapes
To make the canapes, slice the pretzel buns into 1/2 inch thick slices, add a dollop of the Sundekaes to each slice and gently add a folded slice of the Cervelat Salami
Garnish each with one or two items from the garnishes mentioned above.
Makes approximately 20 canapes
